Dr Luigi Antonio Greco – Biologist Specialist in Medical Genetics
In 1980 he graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Perugia and in 1987 the Specialization Diploma in Medical Genetics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
In the Academic Year 1996-1997 he successfully attended the Postgraduate Course in Clinical and Laboratory Oncology “New frontiers of biotechnology and neoplasm therapy“, at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Bari.
In 2008 he obtained with high merit the “Certificate of Managerial Training for Healthcare Manager of Complex Structure – Hospital Area” at the “Luigi Bocconi” University of Milan – School of Business Management (SDA). Revalidation of the Certificate of Management Training in 2016.
In the Academic Year 2024-2025 Professor of Medical Genetics, Adjunct Professor at the University of Bari Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery Taranto campus, Nursing, Obstetrics and Prevention Techniques in the Environment and Workplaces-TPA Bari Policlinico campus.
In the Academic Years from 2008-2009 to 2023-2024 Professor of Medical Genetics, Adjunct Professor at the University of Bari-Polo Didattico di Taranto – Bachelor’s Degree Courses in Physiotherapy, Nursing and Prevention Techniques in the Environment and Workplaces (TPA).
From 2019 to 2021 Referent for Medical Genetics – Interdisciplinary Breast Group of the ASL Taranto (Resolution of the Director General ASL TA n. 1393 of 28/05/2019 – Establishment of Interdisciplinary Corporate Groups of Oncological Pathology Integrated Oncology Department Jonico-Adriatico).
Member of the Breast Care Unit -ASL Taranto until February 2024.
From 1989 to 2002, as Head of the “Medical Genetics Clinic” – Laboratory of cytogenetic analysis and prenatal diagnosis – in Manduria (TA) he was involved in prenatal and postnatal cytogenetic diagnostics on samples of amniotic fluid, chorionic villi, peripheral blood and abortifacient material.
From August 1992 to February 2024 he was Head of the Medical Genetics Section of the “San Marco” O.S. of Grottaglie (TA), belonging to the Clinical Pathology Unit of the Central Hospital of the Taranto ASL, mainly dealing with first-level counseling in the main thematic areas of interest:

The assessment of reproductive risk in relation to Medically Assisted Procreation-IVF
and cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic diagnoses on samples of amniotic fluid, chorionic villi, peripheral blood and abortive material.
In 1993 he attended a Training Course on Assisted Reproduction techniques at the Obstetric Clinic of the University of Ljubljana – Slovenia and since April 1994, after having collaborated in the setting up of a Laboratory of Pathophysiology of Reproduction c/o the Assisted Reproduction Module of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit of the Hospital of Manduria (TA), was in charge, for the biological part, of all the IVF performed at the same module until December 2000.
Suitable for the functions of Director of the Complex Structure of Medical Genetics at the ASL LE/2- Gallipoli (2005) and LE/1- Lecce (2006).
Member/President of the ASL LE Joint Company Commission for the selection of Outpatient Specialists in the Biology branch (2012 and 2019).
In 2016, he was a member of the Selection Committee for the State Exams for the Qualification to Practice the Profession of Biologist and Junior Biologist 1st and 2nd Session, pursuant to Ministerial Order 1st March 2016 n. 112, at the University of Salento – Lecce.

Company Tutor for Pre-Degree Training Internship in Biological Sciences and co-supervisor of degree thesis: Polytechnic University of Marche, University of Urbino, University of Ferrara, University of Salento.
He has participated, as Speaker/Scientific Coordinator/Moderator, in numerous Conferences, Meetings, Round Tables and Seminars in the field of Medical Genetics, Perinatal Medicine and Oncology.
He is the author of numerous publications in the field of Medical Genetics, partly the subject of presentation at National and International Conferences.
He has been a member of the Italian Society of Human Genetics (SIGU) since 1997, the date of its establishment.
Member of the SIGU Working Groups in “Prenatal and Reproductive Genetic Cytogenomics” and in “Oncological Genetics”.
He participates in the Italian project of the European network “Orphanet“ (www.orpha.net) on rare diseases.
Member until 2023 of the Human Genetics Study Group of the Regional Delegation of Puglia and Basilicata of the National Order of Biologists.
Twenty years of experience as a Technical Consultant (CTU), for the specialized branch of Medical Genetics, at the Court of Taranto.
Party’s Technical Consultant (CTP) in numerous civil proceedings of parental assessment.
As part of the 6th feast of the Apulian Biologist, organized by the National Order of Biologists, in 2005 he received a Certificate of Recognition “For his high scientific contribution given, both in favor of research and the intense hospital activity in the field of Medical Genetics which have also seen him engaged in numerous scientific works, thus contributing to the consolidation and strengthening of the image of the Biologist”.
